Privacy Policy

AstroDating ("we", "us", "our") operates the AstroDating mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have regarding your data. By creating an account you agree to the practices described below.

1. Data We Collect

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

1.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Social-login providers — When you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook we receive your name and email address (and, if available, profile photo) as permitted by the provider.
  • Geocoding — We use OpenStreetMap / Nominatim to convert city names into coordinates. No personal identifiers are sent in these requests.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • Provide the service — Create your account, display your profile, calculate your birth chart, compute compatibility scores, enable matching and messaging.
  • Personalization — Show you profiles that match your discovery preferences and astrological compatibility.
  • Safety & integrity — Detect and prevent fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and process user-block and report actions.
  • Communication — Send push notifications for new matches, messages, and important service updates.
  • Subscriptions — Process and manage premium subscriptions and in-app purchases through RevenueCat; track feature entitlements and trial usage.
  • Improvement & analytics — Understand usage patterns, diagnose crashes (via Sentry), and improve the App.
  • Legal compliance — Respond to lawful requests from authorities and enforce our legal rights.

3. Sensitive Personal Data

Some information you provide may be considered sensitive under applicable law, including:

  • Date and time of birth, birth location (astrology data)
  • Precise geolocation
  • Relationship intentions and partner preferences

This data is provided voluntarily and is used only to deliver the core features of the App (birth-chart calculation, compatibility matching, distance-based discovery). We do not sell sensitive data or use it for advertising.

4. How We Share Your Data

4.1 With Other Users

Your profile information (name, age, photos, bio, occupation, interests, zodiac signs, compatibility score) is visible to other users during discovery and after matching. Your exact location is never displayed; only an approximate distance is shown. Message content is visible only to you and the recipient.

Each provider processes data only on our behalf and under contractual obligations to protect it.

4.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your data if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of AstroDating, our users, or the public.

4.4 Business Transfers

If AstroDating is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

5. Data Retention

  • Active accounts — We retain your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service.
  • Deleted accounts — When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or necessary to resolve disputes.
  • Messages — Messages are deleted when both participants have deleted their accounts or the match is removed.
  • Crash reports — Sentry data is retained for up to 90 days.
  • Legal holds — Data may be retained longer if needed for ongoing legal proceedings or regulatory obligations.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS for all API communication)
  • Encryption at rest for stored data (Supabase-managed encryption)
  • Row-level security policies in the database to prevent unauthorized access
  • Secure authentication token handling
  • Password hashing (handled by Supabase Auth; we never store plaintext passwords)

No system is completely secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion — Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Portability — Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection / Restriction — Object to or request restriction of certain processing activities.
  • Withdraw consent — Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

In-App Controls

  • Edit or delete your profile information at any time from the Profile tab.
  • Adjust discovery preferences (age, distance, zodiac filters) from Settings.
  • Block any user to prevent further interaction.
  • Delete your account from the Settings screen, which triggers removal of your data.
  • Manage push-notification permissions through your device settings.

California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information.
  • The right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal data.
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

EEA / UK Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing are:

  • Contractual necessity — Processing needed to provide the service you signed up for (account management, matching, messaging).
  • Consent — For optional features such as push notifications and processing of sensitive data (birth information, location).
  • Legitimate interests — Safety, fraud prevention, service improvement, and crash reporting.
  • Legal obligation — Compliance with applicable laws.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

8. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other legally approved transfer mechanisms to ensure an adequate level of protection.

9. Children's Privacy

AstroDating is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly delete their account and associated data. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us immediately.

10. Third-Party Links

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those services, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies independently.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised. Continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
